Accommodations

1. Lake Duluti Serena Hotel

Tanzania, Arusha

Nestled at the foot of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this unique hotel stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. Designed to echo the traditional style of the colonial coffee farm, which originally stood on this site, the hotel offers several cottage-styled rooms in extensive landscaped grounds.  The rooms are accommodated in banana-stem thatched huts, each with a private balcony that boasts magnificent views of the surroundings.  Each room has a telephone, Wi-Fi connectivity, hair dryer, marble bathroom and large, comfortable bed.  Other room amenities include a ceiling fan, mini bar and satellite TV.  A safety deposit box is available in guest services.  The bar and restaurant have an elegant, yet relaxed ambience with blazing log fires and views of the lake and garden.  Cuisine includes local and international dishes.  The hotel also has a lounge, library, boutique and business center.

2. Tarangire Sopa Lodge

Tarangire Sopa Lodge is nestled among the small rocky hills or kopjes scattered with ancient baobab trees. All spacious rooms at this lodge have a private lounge with a mini bar. Each room has two queen-size beds with a mosquito net around them. Ceiling fans keep the rooms cool and glass sliding doors open out on to a balcony, with a great view of the landscape beyond.  Wildlife can sometimes be spotted while sitting on the balcony. The bar is located between the lobby and the dining room furnished with comfortable seats for total relaxation. The dining room is a large, spacious, and airy room with an enormous outdoor patio.  All meals are included.

3. Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge

Standing high on the edge of a towering terracotta escarpment with panoramic views over the glittering waters of Lake Manyara, the lodge offers peace and tranquility, wildlife discovery, and ornithological richness. The two story ensuite rondavel rooms are strung out along the edge of the cliff to allow for maximum views. The interior décor reflects the blue of the lake and the pink of its flamingos. Each room has a telephone, hair dryer, bathrobe, slippers and Wi-Fi connectivity. Grouped around a central vanishing horizon pool, the lodge features a reception area, built in traditional African style, which is accessed via a bridge over a small stream. Beyond reception, lies the central dining room, bar and veranda, below which lies the pool. Perched on the very edge of the cliffs, with stunning views of Lake Manyara National Park is the pool bar and observation point.  The lodge has a gift shop, room with satellite TV, laundry service.

4. Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

This unique lodge clings to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Designed to blend completely into the landscape, the lodge takes its inspiration from the prehistoric site of Olduvai Gorge, which lies close by. Linked by arched stone passages and timbered decks, the walls are decorated with stylized prehistoric cave paintings and lit by torches. The rooms are set around the Crater rim and each has a rock-enclosed balcony, with uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheater below. All rooms have a telephone, hair dryer, bathrobe, slippers and Wi-Fi connectivity. The dining and bar area features a wall of windows, which look down on the crater below,  while double doors lead out on to a broad viewing terrace. Additional facilities include a gift shop, room with satellite TV, laundry service, at an additional cost and a safety deposit box at reception. All meals are included. 

5. Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge

Tanzania, Serengeti National Park

Set high on an acacia tree-clad ridge with panoramic views across the Serengeti, the lodge has been designed to blend into the landscape. Inspired by a traditional African village, the stone-built, thatched rondavels feature ensuite bathrooms, telephone, Wi-Fi and private balconies. Hairdryers are available from the reception desk. The two-tiered dining room is supported by massive pillars and embellished with traditional ‘Makonde' carvings. A circular terrace looks out over the grounds and the swimming pool. Breakfast and lunch are presented in buffet-style, while dinner is a table d'hôte menu. Bush dining for breakfast, lunch, or dinner can also be arranged at an additional cost. Additional facilities include a gift shop, room with satellite TV, laundry service, at an additional cost and a safety deposit box at reception. All meals are included.

Day 1. Washington Dulles / Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Depart from Washington Dulles on board your Ethiopian Airlines flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Day 2. Addis Ababa / Arusha, Tanzania

When you arrive in Addis Ababa, connect to your onward flight to Arusha, Tanzania. With a warm welcome upon your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your delightful accommodations in Arusha, northern Tanzania's safari capital, where you will spend the night under the star-studded African sky.

Day 3. Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Depart after breakfast and travel overland to Tarangire, one of Tanzania's largest national parks. Arrive in time for lunch. This afternoon join your expert safari ranger for an afternoon game viewing activity. The grassy acacia woodlands and gigantic baobabs make for spectacular vistas. Tarangire National Park supports a great diversity of wildlife - up to 6,000 elephants, giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. (BLD)

Day 4. Tarangire / Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, arrive in time for lunch. This afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park. This small but uniquely diverse national park is a wonderful introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. (BLD)

Day 5. Lake Manyara / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Continue your journey to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater, home to one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa. You will spend the next two nights at a lodge set on the rim of the crater. (BLD)

Day 6. Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Descend some 2,000 feet through the early morning mists, to explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano. You'll be in awe of the profusion of wildlife concentrated here. Zoom in on the elephants ambling along well-worn tracks. Listen for the roaring lion guarding its large pride. Watch gazelle quietly graze surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, and you might spot the endangered rhino feeding down by the lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your camp. Share the day’s magical moments with your safari companions as the sun sinks over the horizon. (BLD)

Day 7. Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, drive to the great Serengeti - "endless plains" in the Maasai language. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson's gazelles and a quarter million zebras gather here for annual migrations, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon, join your expert safari ranger for an afternoon game viewing drive. (BLD)

Day 8. Serengeti National Park

Depart during the early morning splendor of an African sunrise for your first game drive of the day. Negotiating roads and tracks, your expert ranger transports you to a world of primal savagery combined with peaceful vistas. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with its tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at the lodge until the day cools down and the animals become more active before setting out for your afternoon game drive. Before retiring, stretch out and listen to the sounds of the wilderness and watch the illumination of the infinite African sky. (BLD)

Day 9. Serengeti National Park / Arusha / Addis Ababa, Ethiopia / Washington Dulles

Celebrate the glorious sunrise and the sounds of the bush awakening as you savor your last morning in Tanzania. After a short flight you'll enjoy lunch in Arusha. After lunch, you are transferred to the Kilimanjaro Airport where you will be assisted with check in with your ongoing Ethiopian Airlines flight. (BL)
