1. Belmond Mount Nelson

South Africa, Cape Town

Set at the foot of a private, palm-fringed avenue, the Prince of Wales archway stands as a welcome, not only to the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, but also to the beautiful beaches, winelands and mountains of the Cape. For almost 100 years, visiting members of Royal families, international and local statesmen, celebrities and businessmen have preferred to stay at the Mount Nelson, where they are assured of privacy, comfort and care. The individually decorated bedrooms are a peaceful haven, just moments away from the vibrant city and combine understated charm with modern luxury. Fine dining has long been a tradition and the hotel offers guests a choice of venues. Choose from the chic Planet Restaurant and Planet Bar, the sun splashed Oasis Bistro or embark on a culinary journey of discovery at the chef’s table. Afternoon tea is a true institution. Committed to using natural ingredients, the Librisa Spa offers world class treatments. Additional amenities include two heated outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre, Signature Boutique, children’s activity center and teen lounge.

2. Savanna

South Africa, Kruger Private Reserve

Savanna is situated in famous Sabi Sand Reserve in an area where 'Big 5' sightings are so frequent, it is not unusual to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino in a single game drive. The beautifully appointed suites offer spacious and luxurious accommodation, blending the elegance of a bygone era with all the convenience of modern facilities. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, indoor and outdoor shower and open onto private decks with sweeping views of the bush. In between game drives, relax in the comfortable public lounge with its spacious patio or at the main pool overlooking the lush gardens and waterhole. A viewing loft above the lounge makes a pleasant nook for a quiet game of chess as well as a bird's eye view of the waterhole, while an adjoining library provides complimentary Wi-Fi. Breakfasts, lunches and candle-lit dinners are served on the deck of the main lodge. On balmy nights, sumptuous barbecues are enjoyed under the stars round a blazing fire in the open-air ‘boma.’ Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles and guided bush walks, conducted by experienced rangers.

3. Sindabezi Island

Zambia, Livingstone

Sindabezi Island is an idyllic, exclusive camp on its very own private isle on the Zambezi River. The open-sided thatched chalets built on stilts above the water offer unobstructed sights and sounds of the river. The unique design allows you to encounter up close the creatures that live in and around it. The chalets are rustic in style with wood fires, solar powered showers on demand and no electricity. The en-suite bathroom is complete with beautiful brass fittings, free-standing tubs and a ‘loo-with-a-view’. The chalets are connected by a wooden walkway to the main camp area where a covered dining area, cozy lounge and bar make you feel right at home. There are small secluded areas to relax away from others while enjoying superb river views. For dining options, you have the opportunity to sink bare toes into white sand under the dinner table, choose a hosted meal shared with other island goers or have a table set up in or near your chalet. Experience the various activities in the area during the day and return to a tranquil haven at night. Fall asleep in the glow of a hurricane lamp and be woken by magnificent sunrises over the river flood plains.

4. Seba Camp

Botswana, Okavango Delta

Set in an ancient riverine forest in the heart of Botswana's magical Okavango Delta, Seba Camp offers secluded, luxury tents overlooking a lagoon and seasonal floodplain teeming with animal and bird life.
