This safari captures the very best of East Africa. You will explore the rugged landscape of Tarangire National Park, a unique safari backdrop with rolling grasslands, vibrant swamps and forests of enigmatic baobab trees, which according to legend were planted “upside down” for growing too tall and proud. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater and roam the great plains of the Serengeti in search of the migratory herds of zebra and wildebeest and their territorial predators: lion, leopard and cheetah.

Accommodations

1. Lake Duluti Serena Hotel

Tanzania, Arusha

Nestled at the foot of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this unique hotel stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. Designed to echo the traditional style of the colonial coffee farm, which originally stood on this site, the hotel offers several cottage-styled rooms in extensive landscaped grounds.  The rooms are accommodated in banana-stem thatched huts, each with a private balcony that boasts magnificent views of the surroundings.  Each room has a telephone, Wi-Fi connectivity, hair dryer, marble bathroom and large, comfortable bed.  Other room amenities include a ceiling fan, mini bar and satellite TV.  A safety deposit box is available in guest services.  The bar and restaurant have an elegant, yet relaxed ambience with blazing log fires and views of the lake and garden.  Cuisine includes local and international dishes.  The hotel also has a lounge, library, boutique and business center.

2. Maramboi Tented Camp

Maramboi Tented Camp is in a 62,000 acre concession area set aside for conservation by the local Maasai Community.  Close to the shores of Lake Manyara and located in the migratory corridor of Manyara and Tarangire, the camp’s location is extraordinarily rich in wildlife and offers stunning views of the Manyara National Park, Rift Valley and Ngorongoro highlands.  On clear days even Oldonyo Lengai, a sacred mountain to the Maasai, can be seen.  The spacious tents are set on ample wooden decks with private verandas overlooking the Rift Valley and Manyara Lake.  Tent amenities include large beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom, 24 hour electricity, a charging outlet with 110/220volt for devices and cameras, telephone and Wi-Fi.  Meals are served in the mess tent located in the center of the camp.  After a game drive or nature walk, unwind in the lounge, indulge in some reading time in the small library or simply relax and enjoy a dip in the swimming pool.

3. Ngorongoro Farm House

Ngorongoro Farm House is a small and exclusive lodge reminiscent of days gone by.  Facing the Oldeani Volcano, it nestles in a 500-acre coffee farm, located just 2.5 miles from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Lolduare entrance.  All rooms are attractively and tastefully built in old colonial farm style and rustically decorated with local materials.  The rooms are spacious and comfortable and have en-suite bathrooms with showers and equipped with telephones and internet access.  All rooms have a private veranda.  The main building contains the lounge, restaurant and a spacious deck offering spectacular views of the Oldeani Volcano.  Excellent home-made cuisine using the dairy products and fresh vegetables produced by the farm all year round are normally served in the main building and sometimes a buffet lunch is set-up around the swimming pool.

4. Serengeti Mobile Camp

This luxurious seasonal tented camp moves with the migration allowing guests to be within reach of the Great Migration and to explore the remote, beautiful corners of the Serengeti with its excellent resident game. From December to March, the camp is located in the Ndutu area, between the vast plains of the Serengeti National Park and the northwest side of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From June to November, the camp is located in the northern Serengeti, close to the Mara Triangle. Enjoy the exclusivity of absolute comfort combined with the authenticity of nights spent in the African bush. Each spacious safari tent has a double bed, en-suite bathroom with hand basin, a bucket shower and a separate portable flush toilet. Lighting is supplied by solar energy. The lounge and dining tent feature comfortable furniture and a choice of board games and books for whiling away the hours between safaris. In the evening gather around the camp fire with a sundowner and recount the safari highlights of the day

Day 1. Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

With a warm welcome upon your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your delightful accommodations in Arusha, northern Tanzania’s safari capital. (D)

Day 2. Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Begin your journey to Tarangire National Park, best known for its large elephant population and the majestic baobab trees that dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. After settling into your safari lodge, grab your camera and meet your expert ranger to set out for a late afternoon game drive. Tonight, you will be immersed in the African safari experience as you dine beneath the stars. (BLD)

Day 3. Tarangire National Park

Join your expert ranger for morning and afternoon game viewing activities in the Tarangire / Manyara corridor. Tarangire National Park, with its river providing the only permanent water supply during the dry season, supports a great diversity of wildlife — elephants, giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. Day 4. Tarangire / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Set out early this morning for Lake Manyara. The seasonal flamingos lining its shore provide the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. Large herds of elephant roam the park and your ranger will diligently seek out the park’s fabled tree-climbing lions and countless wildlife photo opportunities. Continue on to your lodge for the next two nights, perfectly situated to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater. (BLD)

Day 5. Ngorongoro Crater

Descend some 2,000 feet to explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano. You’ll be in awe of the wildlife concentrated here. Zoom in on the elephants wandering along well-worn tracks. Listen for the roaring lion guarding its large pride. Gazelle quietly graze, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, and you might spot the endangered rhino feeding down by the lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your camp. (BLD)

Day 6. Ngorongoro / Serengeti Ecosystem

Take a short flight and drive to the great Serengeti — “endless plains” in the Maasai language. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, here is where more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle and a quarter-million zebra gather for annual migrations, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Day 7. Serengeti Ecosystem

Depart early in the morning for your first game drive of the day. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at camp until the day cools down and the animals become more active before setting out for your afternoon game drive. (BLD)

Day 8. Serengeti Ecosystem

During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to the locations where you are able to observe the wildlife quietly and at your leisure. Watch the many species of game grazing in close proximity to your camp as the sun sets over the savanna. (BLD)

Day 9. Serengeti Ecosystem / Depart

It is time to savor your last morning in Tanzania. After a short flight to Arusha, you’ll enjoy lunch and a place to relax at a day room reserved for your use at a charming lodge. Later tonight, you are transferred to the airport for your onward arrangements. (BL)
