This safari captures the very best of East Africa. You will explore the rugged landscape of Tarangire National Park, a unique safari backdrop with rolling grasslands, vibrant swamps and forests of enigmatic baobab trees, which according to legend were planted “upside down” for growing too tall and proud. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater and roam the great plains of the Serengeti in search of the migratory herds of zebra and wildebeest and their territorial predators: lion, leopard and cheetah.

1. Legendary Lodge

Tanzania, Arusha

Set in lush tropical gardens on a working coffee farm just outside Arusha, Legendary Lodge is a perfect get-away, offering peace and relaxation. The lodge features beautiful garden cottages, each with an inspiring view of Mount Meru from its own private veranda. Designed with a unique blend of African arts and old, colonial-style furnishings, the cottages offer king sized beds, air-conditioning, a separate lounge with a cozy fireplace and ensuite bathrooms with deep tubs and showers. The two-bedroom Kahawa Cottage is ideal for families, while two cozy ensuite rooms are available in the Old Farmhouse for those who prefer to be closer to the dining room and guest lounge. Guests can take advantage of personal minibars and complimentary wireless internet throughout the property. Delectable gourmet meals are served in the gracious environment of The Old Farmhouse, while the Legendary Therapies Spa offers rejuvenating treatments (at an additional cost) in the elegant therapy room or in the privacy of the guest cottages.

2. Little Chem Chem

Little Chem Chem is set on the edge of an acacia forest in a private concession. The camp overlooks the freshwater Lake Burunge with the Babati mountain range forming a magnificent backdrop. Embracing the elegance and authenticity of a bygone era, the camp is small and intimate with only five vintage style tents. Each tent has a large bedroom, rocking chair, study desk, vanity area with dressing room, in room safe and en-suite bathroom with bucket shower, flushing toilet, and Molton Brown toiletries. Wi-Fi is available in the lounge area. 

3. The Highlands

Set on the edge of the mountain forest hugging the Olmoti volcano to the north of Ngorongoro Crater, The Highlands strikes a perfect balance between a true wilderness experience and a high-style, contemporary escape. 4. Singita Sabora Tented Camp

Singita Sabora Tented Camp is situated in an untouched wilderness area of Grumeti Reserves in northern Tanzania. The intimate 1920s-style explorer’s camp is steeped in character and opulence that is a delightful contrast to the rugged terrain of the surrounding savannah plains. The tents are lavishly furnished with a treasure trove of antiques and artefacts, original campaign furniture, Zanzibari chests, Persian rugs, crystal, silverware and brass. Maasai blankets and traditional beadwork add an authentic local touch. The air conditioned tents have en-suite bathrooms with bath, outdoor shower and a viewing deck.  Amenities include an electronic safe, standing fan, hair dryer, direct dial phone, and complimentary wireless internet access, however due to the remote location of the camp; the connection can be slow and intermittent. The main camp houses the boutique and gallery, swimming pool, lounge, dining room and bar with views of the vast open plains. Designed to enhance the Singita guest experience, the spa offers a holistic and healing approach to treatments. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, guided bush walks conducted by experienced rangers and trackers, community visits and stargazing.

Day 2. Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Begin your journey to Tarangire National Park, best known for its large elephant population and the majestic baobab trees that dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. After settling into your safari lodge, grab your camera and meet your expert ranger to set out for a late afternoon game drive. Tonight, you will be immersed in the African safari experience as you dine beneath the stars. (BLD)

Day 3. Tarangire National Park

Join your expert ranger for morning and afternoon game viewing activities in the Tarangire / Manyara corridor. Tarangire National Park, with its river providing the only permanent water supply during the dry season, supports a great diversity of wildlife — elephants, giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. Day 4. Tarangire / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to Manyara airstrip where you will be met and transferred to The Highlands in the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Set on the edge of the mountain forest hugging the Olmoti volcano to the north of Ngorongoro Crater, the lodge is perfectly situated to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site. (BLD)

Day 5. Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The camp offers a range of activities and adventures with which to explore the surrounding green landscapes. Enjoy a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. Zoom in on the elephants wandering along well-worn tracks, while gazelle graze quietly, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest. Descend into the Empakaai crater and walk to the sparkling soda lake on the crater floor, famous for pink flamingo on its shores. Follow ancient Maasai trails to the summit of the Olmoti crater and visit local communities to catch a glimpse into the traditional Maasai way of life that has defined this corner of East Africa for centuries. Day 6. Ngorongoro / Serengeti Ecosystem

Take a short flight and drive to the great Serengeti — “endless plains” in the Maasai language. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, here is where more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle and a quarter-million zebra gather for annual migrations, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Day 7. Serengeti Ecosystem

Depart early in the morning for your first game drive of the day. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at camp until the day cools down and the animals become more active before setting out for your afternoon game drive. (BLD)

Day 8. Serengeti Ecosystem

During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to the locations where you are able to observe the wildlife quietly and at your leisure. Watch the many species of game grazing in close proximity to your camp as the sun sets over the savanna. (BLD)

Day 9. Serengeti Ecosystem / Depart

It is time to savor your last morning in Tanzania. After a short flight to Arusha, you’ll enjoy lunch and a place to relax at a day room reserved for your use at a charming lodge. Later tonight, you are transferred to the airport for your onward arrangements. (BL)
