2. Maramboi Tented Camp

Tanzania, Tarangire National Park

Maramboi Tented Camp is in a 62,000 acre concession area set aside for conservation by the local Maasai Community.  Close to the shores of Lake Manyara and located in the migratory corridor of Manyara and Tarangire, the camp’s location is extraordinarily rich in wildlife and offers stunning views of the Manyara National Park, Rift Valley and Ngorongoro highlands.  On clear days even Oldonyo Lengai, a sacred mountain to the Maasai, can be seen.  The spacious tents are set on ample wooden decks with private verandas overlooking the Rift Valley and Manyara Lake.  Tent amenities include large beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom, 24 hour electricity, a charging outlet with 110/220volt for devices and cameras, telephone and Wi-Fi.  Meals are served in the mess tent located in the center of the camp.  After a game drive or nature walk, unwind in the lounge, indulge in some reading time in the small library or simply relax and enjoy a dip in the swimming pool.

3. Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp

Tanzania, Lake Eyasi

Situated on the shores of Lake Eyasi, Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp is a few hours’ drive from Ngorongoro Crater and about half a day’s drive to the Serengeti.  Across this seasonal soda lake, the Alipi escarpment wall rises 2,000 feet up into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, providing a stunning view. The camp is beautifully set in a palm and acacia forest and is part of a 200-acre family-owned farm with a natural spring nearby which feeds into the lake. The tents are built on a permanent wooden platform with a palm thatched roof.  Each of the spacious and comfortable tents has a hand carved bed, an enclosed bathroom and shower with hot water, and a stunning view of the lake.  Electricity is provided by a silent generator. There is a dedicated Wifi area, free of charge.  The dining room faces the lake and has a full bar service.  Delicious freshly cooked meals, made with locally produced ingredients, including dairy products from the camp’s own cows and vegetables grown at nearby farms. The camp also has a swimming pool which looks especially inviting after a long walk or a game drive.

4. Ngorongoro Farm House

Tanzania, Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro Farm House is a small and exclusive lodge reminiscent of days gone by.  Facing the Oldeani Volcano, it nestles in a 500-acre coffee farm, located just 2.5 miles from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Lolduare entrance.  All rooms are attractively and tastefully built in old colonial farm style and rustically decorated with local materials.  The rooms are spacious and comfortable and have en-suite bathrooms with showers and equipped with telephones and internet access.  All rooms have a private veranda.  The main building contains the lounge, restaurant and a spacious deck offering spectacular views of the Oldeani Volcano.  Excellent home-made cuisine using the dairy products and fresh vegetables produced by the farm all year round are normally served in the main building and sometimes a buffet lunch is set-up around the swimming pool.
