DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Aug. 9, 2016 – World Elephant Day falls on Aug. 12, a day dedicated to spreading awareness about the critical threats these creatures face and supporting organizations working to ensure their survival. African Travel, Inc. is proud to continue its legacy of supporting the defense and conservation of elephants and other wildlife through a variety of initiatives and partnerships.
“Africa is home to a diverse collection of wildlife, but nothing is more iconic than the Big Five, and elephants are truly one of the most magnificent creatures in existence,” said Sherwin Banda, president, African Travel, Inc. “As an organization, we are committed to improving the local communities where we operate and improving sustainability efforts across the entire African continent. ‘World Elephant Day’ is a special reminder that even the world’s biggest creatures need defending.”
As one of the founding members of The TreadRight Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established by parent company The Travel Corporation (TTC), African Travel is an active supporter of WildAidand TreadRight’s other projects. WildAid focuses on reducing the demand for endangered specieslike elephants by specifically targeting consumers with engaging public service announcements and education initiatives. The campaigns use sophisticated and compelling announcements to deliver the message: “When the buying stops, the killing can too.”
African Travel also understands many safari guests wish to show support for these causes throughvolunteer work. Safari Specialists can facilitate those who want to donate their time, expertise, and physical labor to a variety of projects in East and Southern Africa, including volunteering in the conservation field, working in a medical clinic, or helping to build a shelter or school.
