Activities

Game Drives

Nature drives showcase the magnitude of this wondrous lunar-like landscape and offer the best possibilities of seeing unique desert-adapted wildlife. Morning or afternoon drives are available, as well as full-day excursions. Attractions include true desert oases found in the Hoanib floodplains; as well as habitats being home to desert-adapted elephants, gemsbok, giraffe, and springbok.

Nature Walks

Guided nature walks from camp take in the magnificent surrounds, as well as offer a glimpse at vestiges of the Strandloper (Beachcomber) lifestyle from hundreds of years ago. A thought-provoking opportunity to study the smaller creatures that survive in this seemingly barren landscape, and be astonished at the fascinating plant life of the concession.

Interact With Wildlife Researchers

At the Hoanib Research Centre, presentations by, and interactions with, wildlife researchers are possible. These valuable insights cover all current research being supported at Hoanib, in particular the vital work conducted by Dr Philip Stander and his team studying the unique desert-adapted lion. Learn about the tragic Vanishing Kings lion coalition, as well as the ancient stories and legends of the Skeleton Coast.

Visit the Largest Settlement of Cape Fur Seals at Cape Cross

At the historic Cape Cross colony, over 200,000 adorable Cape fur seals fight for mates and mothers nurse their bleating pups. While strolling along an informative walkway, marvel at diverse wildlife such as killer whales and black-backed jackals. The modern replica of Diego Cao's cross is not to be missed. Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Birding

Birding enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the diverse avifauna of the northern Palmwag Concession, from soaring raptors to charming Namaqua sandgrouse; as well as other regular endemics including Rüppell's korhaan, Benguela long-billed lark and Verreauxs' eagle.

Explore Möwe Bay

Experience the perilous beauty of Skeleton Coast, where you will see what remains of the victims of this perilous coastline: Decaying ships, the wreckage of a Ventura Bomber, and the abandoned Westies Diamond Mine attest to the harsh nature of this desolate landscape.

Explore the Hoarusib River

All along the river… Spend your morning exploring the Hoarusib River. Visit the Clay Castles, a striking geological formation. You might even spot the elusive desert-adapted elephants, brown hyenas and lions.

Quad Bike Safari

Join one of our guides on a scenic drive over the Roaring Dunes . This excursion will only be conducted in an area specifically allocated for the purpose by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to minimise the effects on the environment

Dune Boarding

For the more adventurous at heart, join us for dune boarding. This is done by lying down on a polished board while you slide down the dune headfirst. Speeds of up to 80km/h can be reached.
