Egypt FAQ

Egypt Travel Frequently Asked Questions

Egypt is home to some of the world’s most iconic ancient wonders, including the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor’s temples, and the Valley of the Kings. It offers a journey through ancient history, culture, and the timeless beauty of the Nile.

October to April is ideal, with comfortable temperatures for exploring ancient sites, sailing the Nile, and desert excursions. Summer can be very hot—especially in southern Egypt and the desert—but offers fewer crowds and better value for travelers who can handle the heat.

Egypt is a fascinating introduction to North Africa for travelers interested in ancient civilization, cultural history, and guided touring.

Most travelers spend 9–10 days, covering Cairo, Luxor, and a Nile cruise. Longer trips can add Abu Simbel, a desert oasis, or the Red Sea.

Egypt offers privately guided touring of ancient sites, Nile River cruises, desert and oasis experiences, Red Sea beach stays, hot-air ballooning in Luxor, and immersive cultural encounters.

Cairo: Egypt’s bustling capital, modern and lively, with the Pyramids, Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.

Luxor: A historical city along the Nile, often described as an open-air museum, with temples, tombs, and the Valley of the Kings, including Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Popular combinations include Jordan (Petra and Wadi Rum), Morocco, Israel, UAE, and East or Southern Africa for a safari extension.

A Nile cruise typically lasts 3–4 nights, sailing between Luxor and Aswan. Cruises include guided visits to temples, tombs, and monuments along the way. Ships range from intimate dahabiya-style boats to larger luxury ships with about 60 cabins, offering comfortable accommodations, fine dining, pools, and a range of onboard amenities.

Egypt’s climate is sunny and dry year-round. Cairo experiences summer highs of 95–100°F and winter highs of 65–70°F. Luxor and Aswan are hotter, with summer highs often exceeding 100°F, while winter temperatures are milder and ideal for sightseeing.

A typical itinerary includes Cairo to see the Pyramids, Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum; Luxor and the Nile Valley for temples and tombs; and a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan on a luxury ship.

U.S. citizens need a visa to enter Egypt, which can be obtained online (e-visa) or on arrival for stays up to 30 days.
