Accommodations

1. Arusha Serena Hotel, Resort & Spa

Nestled at the foot of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this unique hotel stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. Designed to echo the traditional style of the colonial coffee farm, which originally stood on this site, the hotel offers several cottage-styled rooms in extensive landscaped grounds.  The rooms are accommodated in banana-stem thatched huts, each with a private balcony that boasts magnificent views of the surroundings.  Each room has a telephone, Wi-Fi connectivity, hair dryer, marble bathroom and large, comfortable bed.  Other room amenities include a ceiling fan, mini bar and satellite TV.  A safety deposit box is available in guest services.  The bar and restaurant have an elegant, yet relaxed ambience with blazing log fires and views of the lake and garden.  Cuisine includes local and international dishes.  The hotel also has a lounge, library, boutique and business center.

2. Maramboi Tented Camp

Maramboi Tented Camp is in a 62,000 acre concession set aside for conservation by the local Maasai Community. Close to the shores of Lake Manyara and located in the migratory corridor of Manyara and Tarangire, the camp’s location is extraordinarily rich in wildlife and offers stunning views of the Rift Valley. On clear days even Oldonyo Lengai, a sacred mountain to the Maasai, can be seen. The spacious tents are set on raised decks. Each tent has a private terrace overlooking the Rift Valley. Tent amenities include large beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom, 24 hour electricity, telephone and a charging outlet with 110/220volt for devices. Meals are served in the restaurant located in the center of the camp. After a game drive or nature walk, unwind in the lounge, indulge in some reading or simply relax and enjoy a dip in the swimming pool.

3. Acacia Farm Lodge

Acacia Farm Lodge is an eco-friendly country lodge nestled high on the Great Rift’s escarpment with panoramic views of the Karatu farmlands and the nearby Ngorongoro forest area. The spacious air-conditioned chalets include a lounge, en suite bathroom, mosquito net, flat screen TV with satellite channels, international telephone line, hair dryer, digital safe, shower, mini bar, coffee station and Wi-Fi. All the chalets have a private deck, with sweeping views of the farm and the surrounding scenic landscape. There are several interconnected rooms suitable for families with young children and the entire lodge is wheelchair accessible. The main lodge houses the lounge, cozy bar, coffee shop and dining room. Additional services include a curio shop, swimming pool, and a gym. The cuisine is modern African with an international twist using fresh vegetables from the garden.  Same day laundry is available.

4. Mbuzi Mawe Serena Camp

Mbuzi Mawe lies in the middle of the Serengeti National Park on one of the main annual migration corridors for over one million wildebeest, half a million zebras and gazelles and their accompanying cast of predators. The canvas tents offer spacious style and a host of comforts, ensuring a restful stay. All accommodation features two queen beds, complimentary Wi-Fi and a private tented bathroom with shower, twin vanities, flushing loos and 24-hour hot water. A private terrace outside of each tent allows you to take in the splendid beauty of the surrounding glades. The dining room is presented in classic tented style with a panoramic terrace looking out over the plains. There is also a circular barbeque and campfire area. The bar is a welcome spot for a cocktail with friends after a successful day on safari.

Day 1. Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

With a warm welcome upon your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your delightful accommodations in Arusha, northern Tanzania’s safari capital. (D)

Day 2. Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Begin your journey to Tarangire National Park, best known for its large elephant population and the majestic baobab trees that dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. After settling into your safari lodge, grab your camera and meet your expert ranger to set out for a late afternoon game drive. Tonight, you will be immersed in the African safari experience as you dine beneath the stars. (BLD)

Day 3. Tarangire National Park

Join your expert ranger for morning and afternoon game viewing activities in the Tarangire / Manyara corridor. Tarangire National Park, with its river providing the only permanent water supply during the dry season, supports a great diversity of wildlife — elephants, giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. Day 4. Tarangire / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Set out early this morning for Lake Manyara. The seasonal flamingos lining its shore provide the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. Large herds of elephant roam the park and your ranger will diligently seek out the park’s fabled tree-climbing lions and countless wildlife photo opportunities. Continue on to your lodge for the next two nights, perfectly situated to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater. (BLD)

Day 5. Ngorongoro Crater

Descend some 2,000 feet to explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano. You’ll be in awe of the wildlife concentrated here. Zoom in on the elephants wandering along well-worn tracks. Listen for the roaring lion guarding its large pride. Gazelle quietly graze, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, and you might spot the endangered rhino feeding down by the lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your camp. (BLD)

Day 6. Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park

Take a short flight and drive to the great Serengeti — “endless plains” in the Maasai language. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, here is where more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle and a quarter-million zebra gather for annual migrations, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. Day 7. Serengeti National Park

Depart early in the morning for your first game drive of the day. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at camp until the day cools down and the animals become more active before setting out for your afternoon game drive. (BLD)

Day 8. Serengeti National Park

During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to the locations where you are able to observe the wildlife quietly and at your leisure. Watch the many species of game grazing in close proximity to your camp as the sun sets over the savanna. (BLD)

Day 9. Serengeti National Park / Depart

It is time to savor your last morning in Tanzania. After a short flight to Arusha, you’ll enjoy lunch and a place to relax at a day room reserved for your use at a charming lodge. Later tonight, you are transferred to the airport for your onward arrangements. (BL)
