Accommodations
1. Hemingways Nairobi
Kenya, Nairobi
Hemingways Nairobi is a small luxury plantation-style hotel in the peaceful suburb of Karen. The beautifully furnished rooms pay homage to the classic elegance of vintage East African safaris. The spacious en-suite bedrooms feature bathrooms of hand-cut Italian marble, vaulted ceilings and balconies overlooking the Ngong Hills. An attentive butler is on hand to complete the luxurious experience. Meals are a delightful affair, with fresh baked breads and pastries from the hotel’s own patisserie. The Brasserie serves the best steaks in Kenya, grilled on an imported charcoal oven. Menus are contemporary in style. Additional amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a bar, a wine cellar and a Spa.
2. Elewana Sand River Masai Mara Camp
Kenya, Masai Mara
Elewana Sand River Masai Mara is located on the banks of the Sand River, within the Masai Mara National Reserve. Comprising only 16 tents, including a family tent, the camp replicates the heyday of exclusive tented camps of the late 1920’s. The spacious en-suite tents feature a bedroom and lounge, and amenities include a bathtub, outdoor shower, solar heated hot water, twin vanity, writing desk, hairdryer, digital safe and a charging point with universal adapter. The camp is divided into two separate but adjoining campsites, with each area possessing its own designated dining and public areas, thereby creating an increased sense of exclusivity and privacy. Additional facilities include a billiard room, library and refreshing swimming pool with a large sun deck. Wi-Fi is available in the main reception areas. Elewana Sand River Masai Mara is an ideal destination for exceptional game viewing at any time of the year.
3. Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp
Tanzania, Serengeti National Park
Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp is in the Northern Corridor of the park, on the main wildebeest migration route between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. The camp has become synonymous with low-impact, high-action game viewing in a landscape that is untouched since the dawn of time. Spacious elevated tents blend seamlessly into the environment. The tents have a wooden floor and are richly furnished with a writing desk, stationery set and standing fan. The en-suite bathroom has a solar generated hot shower, twin vanity basin and flushing toilet. Room amenities include bathrobes, slippers, in room electronic safe and internal telephone system. The main 'tent' has a split-level lounge, a swimming pool, restaurant and viewing platforms that offer views across the river and the rugged landscape beyond. But it is the drama and proximity of the wild, which takes the experience of this camp to an altogether higher level.
4. Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp
Tanzania, Serengeti National Park
Located in the Southern Serengeti, within the Moru Kopjes area, Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp offers superlative access to the annual migration and the Big 5, with sweeping views overlooking Lake Magadi and the endless plains. Pioneer Camp pays homage to the mobile adventure camps of the 1930’s. A time when an African safari was truly a journey into the unknown and the closeness to nature combined to make an unmistakably distinctive safari experience. The tent interiors are designed to evoke the nostalgic feeling of the safaris of days long ago. The canvas-covered floors are adorned with throw carpets, luxuriant soft furnishings, a writing desk and stationery set. Each tent has en-suite facilities including a flushing toilet, vanity basin, and period-style hot showers. The dining tent hosts the camp’s guests for both breakfast and dinner, whilst luncheons are taken either in camp or in the bush.
5. Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro
Tanzania, Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro is located within a 1500-acre coffee estate, surrounded by flowering gardens and age-old trees. Reminiscent of an elegant up-country Cape Dutch estate, the luxurious cottages are positioned to ensure that every guest experiences the natural beauty of the landscape, as well as the privacy and intimacy characteristic of an old world manor home. Each cottage has its own private entrance and adjoining sun terrace. A double open-fronted log-burning fireplace divides the room's interior. The en-suite bathroom has a Victorian-style bath, as well as twin vanity basins and a large rainfall shower. Cottage amenities include a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room electronic safe, universal power adapters and charging points. The main Manor House features fireplace lounges, a formal dining room, dining conservatory, bar, private wine cellar, library with Internet, home theatre, snooker room, a massage room, swimming pool, and horse stables. Wi-Fi is available at the main Manor House.
