Maison Gallieni was built in 1879 and housed the first bank in Madagascar. Located on a hill, in the historic heart of Antananarivo, it has spectacular views overlooking the town. Beautifully designed of brick, stone and wood, the restored mansion is an elegant mix of modern and traditional décor. The guesthouse consists of 4 spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms, indoor common areas, a library, heated pool, garden and outdoor lounge.
2. Mandrare River Camp

Mandrare River Camp is nestled under the shade of tamarind trees on the banks of the Mandrare River. The tents are spread out along the river bank with breathtaking views across the tranquil water, which is the lifeblood of the region. Each tent has a private terrace with hand carved wooden furniture, 4 poster bed with mosquito netting, safari wardrobe, dressing table, baggage trunk, and bedside lights. A fully plumbed en-suite stone built bathroom, with shower and toilet, extends to the rear of the tent. Solar panels provide hot water and 24 hour lighting. Meals are served on the large terrace which extends to the water’s edge. Far from civilization the camp is incredibly peaceful. Each day is greeted with the singing of children by the river, accompanied by the calls of birds and other forest animals. Spend your time on day and night guided walks with experienced guides in the Sacred Gallery and Spiny Forest to see the sifaka and ring tailed lemurs. Visit the colorful markets and local villages to learn about the local Antandroy tribe. Enjoy sundowners in the Baobab Forest and then return to camp for dinner served in the warm glow of hurricane lamps.

Day 1. Arrive Antananarivo, Madagascar
Welcome to Madagascar! Experience a charming French-Malagasy welcome as you settle into your first night in Antananarivo, the historic capital with over 500 years of rich cultural heritage. Maison Gallieni is a restored colonial mansion with an elegant mix of modern and traditional décor. Take a dip in the pool and enjoy the lovely views over the city before dinner. (D)

Day 2. Antananarivo / Mandrare River
Fly to Ifotaka, where you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to camp. Settle into your tent overlooking the Mandrare River before an evening walk through the Forest of Zenavo. This unique experience offers the chance to see diurnal lemurs settling down for the night and nocturnal lemurs emerging after dark. Look for sifakas, sleeping white-foot sportive lemurs, mouse lemurs, chameleons, owls, and other wildlife of the spiny forest. (BLD)

Day 3. Mandrare River
After breakfast, explore the sacred gallery forest in search of inquisitive ring-tailed lemurs and entertaining Verreaux’s sifaka. Return to camp for lunch and a relaxing afternoon by the pool. Later, walk through the sacred spiny forest, home to ancestral tombs of the Antandroy tribe and an extraordinary array of endemic flora and fauna. A local tracker will introduce you to Antandroy culture and customs before sundowners along the Mandrare River. (BLD)

Day 4. Mandrare River
Head to the Spiny Forest at sunrise, where the light filters through octopus trees as you spot endemic birds like the crested coua, various vangas, and the running coua. Return to camp for breakfast, then visit the local market to meet the fascinating Antandroy tribe. Later, enjoy a sundowner with views of the sunset and moonrise across the baobabs. Local villagers may perform traditional dances, accompanied by singing and music. (BLD)

Day 5. Mandrare River / Antananarivo
After breakfast, take your scheduled charter flight to ntananarivo. In the evening, your guide will accompany you to Le Marais, Madagascar’s top restaurant, where Chef Lalaina, who has received numerous culinary awards in Europe, offers a unique blend of Malagasy and European cuisine, using the finest Malagasy ingredients. Day 6. Antananarivo / Anjajavy
Upon arrival in Anjajavy, settle into the lodge before heading out on a night walk through the reserve. Coquerel’s sifakas are a highlight, while the darkness reveals other nocturnal species, including sportive and mouse lemurs. Keep watch for chameleons, the endemic tsingy tuft-tailed rat, Commerson’s leaf-nosed bat, and the rare and elusive fossa, Madagascar’s largest predator. (BLD)

Day 7. Anjajavy
Walk the Chemin des Crabes trail to discover vibrant birdlife, beautiful baobabs, and the famous hairy crab. Look for colorful species such as the red fody and Souimanga sunbird. During a signature Anjajavy Reserve experience, learn about the project to repatriate the Giant Tortoise to Madagascar. Continue through young coconut groves and explore caves at the base of the striking tsingy formations, including sites of animist and ancestral Sakalava significance. (BLD)

Travel by boat to Moramba Bay and discover the spectacular northwest coast, with its centuries-old marine baobabs, sandy beaches, and mushroom-shaped tsingy islands. Search for the critically endangered Madagascar fish eagle and, if conditions are right, enjoy some snorkeling. Return to the lodge for lunch before exploring King’s Alley on foot, where ancient baobabs, unusual tsingy formations, and lemurs—including the distinctive Coquerel’s sifaka—await. (BLD)

Today enjoy a birdwatching excursion in the reserve. As one of the best spots in Madagascar for birdwatchers, Anjajavy is home to 135 bird species, many of which are listed vulnerable. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner in the beautiful Oasis Gardens. (BLD)

This morning, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo. Upon arrival, a staff member will assist you with checking in for your outbound flight. (B)
