2. The Royal Livingstone Hotel

The Royal Livingstone Hotel is situated on the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, and stretches along the banks of the Zambezi River, just a short walk to the entrance of The Victoria Falls. Named in honor of the explorer Dr. David Livingstone, its African architectural style and interior design reflects the elegance of days gone by.  The air conditioned, spacious en-suite rooms, each with its own private veranda and a view of the Zambezi River, are furnished with large comfortable beds, bathrooms with showers and Victorian style baths. The main hotel building incorporates the lounge, restaurant and bar. 3. Hemingways Nairobi

Hemingways Nairobi is a small luxury plantation-style hotel in the peaceful suburb of Karen. The beautifully furnished rooms feature expansive vaulted ceilings and balconies overlooking the lawns and Ngong Hills.  All rooms are sprawling with large ensuite bathrooms, which are lined with hand-cut Italian marble and feature a walk-in closet, double vanity, separate toilet, bath and shower.  The rooms also have complimentary Wi-Fi, LED television, dual telephone lines, bathroom telephone, air conditioning and ceiling fan, personalized bar, electronic safe, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers.  The menus are contemporary European in style, with an ultra-modern twist using locally sourced artisan producers and accompanied by the finest selection of wines.  The Brasserie, known in Kenya for its steaks specially fed beef grilled on a charcoal oven using “a la plancha” and sous-vide techniques.   For breakfast or tea, pastries and breads freshly baked daily in the bakery are an added feature to your culinary experience. Other amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, a bar, and a wine cellar.

4. Mara Bushtops

Mara Bushtops is perched on top of a hill in the Mara Siana Wildlife Conservancy. The camp has been designed to make the most of natural resources, but while the camp uses solar power for most of its energy needs, no expense has been spared on the fittings. The spacious tents are secluded havens of privacy and calm. Open on three sides to the great outdoors, each tent has a large comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outside shower and 24 hour butler service. View the animals roaming the reserve below from the telescope on your private deck or indulge in a languorous wallow in your own outdoor sunken tub. At the heart of the camp is the reception, lounge and dining areas, incorporating the bar, library and wine cellar. The deck and infinity pool provide additional space to relax during the heat of the day. Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Cape Town, South Africa

Begin your sensational adventure with three days in sophisticated Cape Town, first established as a supply station for ships transporting spices from Asia to Europe and now known as South Africa’s “Mother City.” You’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to your waterfront luxury hotel with the iconic Table Mountain as your backdrop. Your evening is at your leisure to enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Day 2. Cape Town

Meet your personal driver and guide for the next two days and embark on a day of discovering the pristine coastline and quaint towns of “The Fairest Cape.” Keep your binoculars ready to spot wildlife in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Continue along the coastline to Boulders Beach and linger among the penguins. (BL)

Day 3. Cape Town

Begin the day with spectacular vistas of the city on a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain. Sense the depth of history as you drive past the Castle, City Hall and the old Slave Lodge. Stroll through the cobblestone streets of the Malay Quarter and browse Greenmarket Square. (B)

Day 4. Cape Town / Livingstone, Zambia

Take flight to Livingstone to experience Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Settle into your luxurious resort on the Zambezi River. Tonight, be swept away by the romance of Africa as you soak up the views of the river from your hotel. (B)

Day 5. Livingstone

The views of magnificent Victoria Falls, the world’s largest curtain of falling water, are even more sensational when viewed from a short helicopter flight. Take in the vast Zambezi River as it spreads out and crashes down, squeezing through the funnel of gorges. Afterwards, join your guide and walk along the misty forest trails to select vantage points for those priceless photos of the falls. Later this afternoon, board a riverboat for a sundowner cruise. Enjoy cocktails in the exclusive Captain’s Cabin as you watch for game on the riverbanks. (B)

Day 6. Livingstone

Relish a leisurely day in Livingstone. Go on a boat ride to Livingstone Island, the place where Dr David Livingstone first glimpsed Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders). Visit a local village and meet the friendly villagers or take a day trip into neighboring Botswana and explore Chobe National Park. For the adventure seeker, there is plenty to do, from white water rafting the rapids of the Zambezi to paddling down the river in a canoe. (B)

Day 7. Livingstone / Nairobi, Kenya

Day 8. Nairobi / Maasai Mara

Begin your safari with a short flight to the fabulous Maasai Mara, Kenya’s premier game viewing destination. Your tented camp is just a short drive from the Mara River where more than a million wildebeest and zebra make their annual perilous migration. Meet your expert ranger and take off on an afternoon game drive across the tree-flecked grasslands. Return to your camp for sundowners and a sumptuous dinner prepared by your gracious Maasai hosts. Day 9. Maasai Mara

Awaken with the animals and a steaming cup of coffee as you join your morning game drive. Look out for the black-maned lion, leopard and cheetah that may be still feasting on the night’s hunt. Explore the bends of the traversing Mara River where the dense population of hippos and crocodiles spread out in their favorite feeding grounds. Relax until your evening game drive, or take a walking safari to learn about the plants, insects and animal tracks. Tonight, tip your head back and be mesmerized by the star-studded African sky and the mysterious calls of the nocturnal wildlife. (BLD)

Day 10. Maasai Mara

Perhaps arrange for an optional sunrise hot air balloon ride to spot wildlife from a bird’s-eye view. Enjoy your luxurious lodging — soak in the cool blue waters of the private camp pool. As the sun melts over the horizon, join your keen-eyed ranger for a game drive spotlighting nocturnal animals.
