1. Arusha Serena Hotel, Resort & Spa

Tanzania, Arusha

Nestled at the foot of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this unique hotel stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of tranquil Lake Duluti. Designed to echo the traditional style of the colonial coffee farm, which originally stood on this site, the hotel offers several cottage-styled rooms in extensive landscaped grounds. The rooms are accommodated in banana-stem thatched huts, each with a private balcony with French doors that leads to magnificent views of the surroundings. Each room has a telephone, Wi-Fi connectivity, a large, comfortable bed and the marble en-suite bathroom. Additional room amenities include a ceiling fan, tea and coffee making facilities, flat screened TV with satellite channels, hairdryer, bathrobe and slippers. A safety deposit box is available at guest services. The bar and restaurant have an elegant, yet relaxed ambience with blazing log fires and views of the lake and garden. Cuisine includes local and international dishes. The hotel also has a lounge, library, boutique and business center.

2. Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge

Tanzania, Lake Manyara

Standing high on the edge of a towering terracotta escarpment with panoramic views over the glittering waters of Lake Manyara, the lodge offers peace and tranquility. The en suite rondavel rooms are strung out along the edge of the cliff to allow for maximum views. Each spacious room has its own small veranda with interior décor reflecting the blue of the lake and the pink of the flamingos.

3. Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

Tanzania, Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Hugging the contours of the jagged Crater rim, the lodge takes its inspiration from the so-called ‘Cradle of Mankind', the prehistoric site of Olduvai Gorge, which lies close by. Linked by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its walls are decorated with stylized prehistoric cave paintings and lit by flaring torches. At the stone heart of the lodge burns a glowing fire, which is kept constantly alight. Each room has its own rock- enclosed balcony, and all enjoy completely uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheater far below.

4. TAASA Lodge

Tanzania, Serengeti - Taasa Private Reserve

The luxurious split-level tents seamlessly blend modern comforts with uniquely African accents. The raised sleeping area features either a king or twin-sized beds, adorned with traditional Maasai beadwork. The en-suite bathrooms are complete with a stone shower, double vanity, and sumptuous robes and towels. Enjoy the views of the Lobo Valley from the serenity of your private verandah or curl up with a book in your cozy lounge. The thoughtfully designed main lodge consists of three interior areas; a dining room, main lounge with an indoor fireplace and a lounge bar. In addition, there are two outdoor patios with a large fire bowl and lounge chairs, the perfect venue for reading, relaxing and meeting other guests. The infinity pool with its uninterrupted views is the perfect place to enjoy a cool cocktail. Complimentary high-speed wireless internet is available throughout the main building.

Day 4. Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast descend through the early morning mist 2,000 feet into the crater for an awesome wildlife experience. Known as ‘the eighth wonder of the world' and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's best-known wildlife arenas. Enclosed by towering walls, some 25,000 large mammals wander the plains, lakes and forests of ‘the land that time forgot', dominated by enormous bull elephants, rhinos and lions. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the crater, before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon. (BLD)

Day 5. Ngorongoro Crater / Serengeti - TAASA Private Reserve

After breakfast, fly to TAASA Private Reserve, bordering the northern edge of the Serengeti National Park. Far away from the crowds, with no outside vehicles, TAASA has excellent animal viewing throughout the year with resident wildlife such as lion, cheetah and hyena. (BLD)

Day 6. TAASA Private Reserve

Explore the endless plains of the Serengeti during morning and afternoon open vehicle game drives when the animals are most active. TAASA offers the added bonus of night game drives, and you may see striped hyena on the prowl or lions on the hunt. Your Maasai guide will be in his tracker’s chair mounted on the vehicle front with his floodlight sweeping for the reflective eyes of predators. (BLD)

Day 7. TAASA Private Reserve

Another glorious day in the vast Serengeti. An optional hot air balloon ride is one of the most magical ways to experience the Serengeti. Balloon safaris take off just before dawn so that you are high above the plains in time for sunrise. A walk in the bush, surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of Africa, is a more personal experience than a drive in a safari vehicle. Accompanied by a professional guide, learn about the ecology of the area, the medicinal uses of trees and bushes in Maasai tradition, and gain basic skills in tracking. One of the most rewarding experiences of any visit to Africa is time spent with the local people. While at TAASA, you can visit the Maasai of Ololosokwan, who are always enthusiastic to share their cultural beliefs. (BLD)

Day 8. TAASA Private Reserve / Depart

Savor your last morning in Tanzania. After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for the scheduled light aircraft flight to Arusha. Enjoy lunch and a place to relax at a day room reserved for your use. Later this afternoon transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your international departure flight. (BL)
