2. Loisaba Tented Camp

Kenya, Loisaba Conservancy

Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to capitalize on unhindered views across Laikipia's mottled landscape. The inviting main areas of the camp include a large open dining area, separate open lounge and bar, a large wooden decking area for outside dining, relaxing and enjoying the view, and an infinity pool. The airy tents are spacious with high ceilings and large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows. The luxury ensuite bathrooms have solar powered hot water and include a double-basin vanity, rainfall shower and enclosed flush toilet. Each tent has a wide verandah to take in the expansive views. Guests have complete freedom to choose how they spend their time exploring the landscape. Choose from a variety of activities; game drives in custom-designed Land Rover safari vehicles, horse-riding, camel-trekking, guided bush walks, fishing, mountain biking, cultural visits to Samburu villages and visits to the anti-poaching sniffer dogs.

3. Loisaba Star Beds

Poised on a rocky hilltop, the Loisaba Star Beds command sweeping views over the valley and a permanent waterhole. Rustically designed to complement the surrounding environment, each star bed is raised on a wooden platform and features a handcrafted four-poster bed, a sitting area and open plan bathroom with a view.

4. Serian "The Original"

Kenya, Mara North Conservancy

Serian perfectly captures the essence of its name – ‘peaceful, calm, serene’ in the Maasai language. It lies in the private Mara North Conservancy and was designed as a retreat from the flurry of contemporary life and a chance to experience untamed Africa in traditional tented splendor. The camp consists of five spacious tents, perched on beautiful hardwood decking with views over the Olooloo Escarpment. Each tent is unique in its own way, but all are furnished with elegant simplicity. Each has an adjoining bush bathroom with hot and cold running water, twin basins, flush toilet, shower, and custom-made bathtub where you can enjoy views over the river valley. There is 24-hour electricity on a combination of solar and generator. The thatched mess area, which has a stunning view over the Mara River and the Siria escarpment, offers a perfect spot to share a sundowner and stories of the day’s activities. Comfortable furniture, smooth wooden decks and an indoor fireplace give a warm feeling of home. Meals are served in the cozy dining room or under dappled sunlight on the wooden deck.

5. The Nest

Kenya, Mara North Conservancy

The Nest, is perched out on a limb in a lone Warburgia tree overlooking the Mara River. A mere meander away from Serian Camp, it is the perfect picnic spot after a trek through the bushes, or an overnight in the bush under the canopy of stars. The Treehouse has 2 cozy nest-shaped double beds and plenty of space for additional bedrolls for kids. Additional amenities are flush toilet up the tree, bucket shower down below (on request), candlelight and kerosene lanterns, infra-red spotlight and night-vision camera for watching nocturnal creatures.
