Accommodations
1. Ololo Safari Lodge
Kenya, Nairobi
Ololo Lodge is perfectly situated on the southern boundary of Nairobi National Park. Set on 20 acres of beautifully established gardens, the lodge offers views over the Park and the Ngong Hills to the west. Originally built as a family home, Ololo is classic African style - thatched roofs, stone walls, airy verandas and shady terraces. The individually designed rooms feature a blend of ‘Out of Africa’ style with a modern, eclectic accent. There is free Wi-Fi access throughout the lodge. The heart of Ololo is a traditional colonial farmhouse. Guests can relax in the large open living room, in front of the blazing fireplace, with wine selected from the stone cellar, or in the adjoining library. The centrally located pool has views across the park. Meals are served alfresco on the vine-covered terrace or under the old acacia trees in the garden. Ololo offers the warmth and comfort of a home with effortless style and personalized service.
2. Loisaba Tented Camp
Kenya, Loisaba Conservancy
Perched on the edge of an escarpment, Loisaba Tented Camp is designed to capitalize on unhindered views across Laikipia's mottled landscape. The inviting main areas of the camp include a large open dining area, separate open lounge and bar, a large wooden decking area for outside dining, relaxing and enjoying the view, and an infinity pool. The airy tents are spacious with high ceilings and large floor-to-ceiling doors and windows. The luxury ensuite bathrooms have solar powered hot water and include a double-basin vanity, rainfall shower and enclosed flush toilet. Each tent has a wide verandah to take in the expansive views. Guests have complete freedom to choose how they spend their time exploring the landscape. Choose from a variety of activities; game drives in custom-designed Land Rover safari vehicles, horse-riding, camel-trekking, guided bush walks, fishing, mountain biking, cultural visits to Samburu villages and visits to the anti-poaching sniffer dogs.
3. Loisaba Star Beds
Kenya, Loisaba Conservancy
Poised on a rocky hilltop, the Loisaba Star Beds command sweeping views over the valley and a permanent waterhole. Rustically designed to complement the surrounding environment, each star bed is raised on a wooden platform and features a handcrafted four-poster bed, a sitting area and open plan bathroom with a view.
4. Mahali Mzuri
Kenya, Maasai Mara
Mahali Mzuri is Sir Richard Branson's luxury safari camp in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which covers over 33,000 acres within the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Mahali Mzuri is a collaboration with the local Maasai communities and delivers exceptional service and attention to detail. The tented suites sit on a raised platform and include a spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, sitting area and a large deck with views over the landscape - perfect for spotting the game that will almost certainly wander into view! The central main tent features a relaxing lounge area with an open fireplace, a library of books, iPads for guest use, iPod docking stations, a game console and a TV/DVD player for those who wish to keep up to date. Complimentary wireless internet is available throughout the camp. Meals are served on the deck or at the communal table inside. Binoculars are available (although it’s a good idea to bring your own!) and a telescope for stargazing. In between activities, enjoy a treatment, for own account, at Nasaro, which means refuge or relaxation in Maa or take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool.
