A Special Preview of Xigera Safari Lodge

Located on the western side of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta is a bold new safari lodge in Botswana.

Xigera, pronounced “Kee-jera” and named after the local pied kingfisher, is set to open in October 2020. This month we hosted a special preview with the lodge’s Managing Director, Mike Myers and Lodge Manager, Quest Maundo.

Following are the ways Xigera are reinventing the idea of the African Bush experience and what you need to know about the lodge including bookable trip experiences.

10 REASONS TO LOVE XIGERA

1. AN EXTRAORDINARY LOCATION

Xigera overlooks the verdant floodplains of the Okavango delta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is well placed to offer remarkable experience both on land and on water.

2. OUR FAMILY

Nearly 70 years of passion, care and attention to detail have been dedicated to Xigera. This pioneering camp is the dream and vision of the Tollman family, the pinnacle of a life’s work creating extraordinary experiences across The Travel Corporation's family of brands.

3. HOW WE MAKE GUESTS FEEL

With 105 staff members and just 24 guests, Xigera offers a truly personal, unique and memorable safari experience led by legendary wildlife and conservation expert Mike Myers and his wife Marian.

4. PASSIONATE EXPERTS

Inspired by a deep love and understanding of the African bush, Xigera guides reveal enriching and educational ways of discovering this majestic corner of the Okavango. Lodge Manager Quest leads a qualified team ensureing that all guests feel special, cared for and welcome.

5. AT ONE WITH NATURE

The lodge is designed under a beautiful canopy of ancient trees, with epic views over the floodplains. The 12 suites, including one family suite suitable for two couples or a family, are situated on two islands. The two islands are bridged together with an extraordinary bronze lily centrepiece designed by Anton de Kock and created by Otto du Plessis. Each suite floats delicately above the water, allowing wildlife to pass uninterruptedly beneath. All suites have 1,980 ft of indoor and outdoor space including separate lounge, bedroom and dressing area, private decks with a king-size daybed with gazebo for day or night-time lounging and indoor or outside dining.

6. UNIQUE DESIGN AND CURATED ART

Toni Tollman in collaboration with the award-winning Southern Guild gallery has meticulously designed the interiors. They are a vibrant reflection of the landscape, featuring exceptional one-off works by Africa’s most globally recognised artists.

7. DELICIOUS FOOD AND WINE

Guests can indulge in comforting signature dishes created by Red Carnation's founder, Beatrice Tollman, as well as African-inspired menus with a focus on healthy, nutritious choices. The boma, circling a fire pit sculpture by Conrad Hicks, allows al fresco meals beneath a blanket of stars. The world-class wine list showcases the family’s award-winning Bouchard Finlayson vineyard.

8. XIGERA CARES

In partnership with the Treadright Foundation, Xigera is fully solar-powered, single-use plastic-free and encourages guests to join in their conservation journey to safeguard this precious landscape for generations to come.

9. THE POWER OF THE BUSH

The Spa at Xigera offers a profoundly regenerative environment for guests to heal and let go, drawing on the deep connection between soul and nature. Using the natural healing ingredients guests can benefit from a truly restorative experience, where the inspiring wilderness provides both the setting and the therapy.

10. EXPERIENCES ON YOUR OWN TIME

One-of-a-kind activities are carefully tailored to guests’ specific interests and timings. Explore the bush on a thrilling photographic game drive or on foot with our wonderful guides in Botswana. Discover the Okavango’s most remote waterways by boat, or drifting gently across serene lagoons in a glass-bottomed mokoro, culminating in feet-in-the-water sundowners.
